The University Mental Health Charter

The University Mental Health Charter was created by Student Minds, in partnership with leading higher education bodies and thousands of staff and students, to shape a future in which everyone in higher education can thrive.

Published in 2019, the Charter framework provides a set of evidence-informed principles to support universities across the UK in making mental health a university-wide priority.

The Charter Programme brings together universities committed to university mental health to share practice and create cultural change. Members can apply to the Charter Award, which recognises those universities that promote good mental health and demonstrate excellent practice.

Visit our brand new Charter website to explore the University Mental Health Charter framework and access resources and research to learn about good practice in university mental health and wellbeing. Find out more about how the Charter Programme and the Charter Award can support your university to create cultural change.

Student Resources

The role of students is vital for universities working towards creating positive change. Working with a group of students, we have co-produced the Student-led Improvement Tool, a guide for students to use  to improve university mental health.

Using the tool, students will be able to identify what their university already does well, and where it could use more work .Importantly, allowing you to make recommendations for improvement.  We hope that this tool empowers more students to get involved and create lasting positive change for student mental health.
