Here at Student Minds, we understand that it's not always easy supporting a friend who is experiencing an eating difficulty. It's important that whilst caring for others, you also remember your own health and make sure to look after yourself too. The supporting supporters two-part workshop is for just that - making sure you are able to take care of yourself whilst supporting your friend through their recovery.
"I find it helpful to listen to others as I am able to hear another person's perspective on their issues and reactions to my own contributions to the group."
What does the course cover?
We have put together two educational workshops on understanding eating difficulties and communicating effectively with a friend or loved one who has difficulties around food. The workshops will cover:
How are the sessions structured and who should attend?
The workshops are delivered by Student Minds volunteers and are aimed at students whose housemate, boyfriend, girlfriend, spouse, partner or relative is experiencing eating difficulties or has concerns around food or body image. Each session is two and a half hours long and attendees will be asked to commit to both sessions in order to gain the maximum benefit from the course.
Is the course on my campus?
The first series of workshops ran in early 2014 across the UK. Since then, a number of groups have continued running the course on their campus. To find out if there is a workshop running on your campus, contact your local student group.
