University Counselling

The University Counselling Service can be a great way to gain support. It is an active process which will give you the chance to explore and understand the issues you bring in a safe and non-judgemental environment. Details of your university counselling service will be available on the university website.

Your GP

A good first step to take when thinking about getting treatment is to visit your GP. This can seem like a scary prospect, but it is a very important step in the road to recovery. It can be helpful to write down what you have been experiencing before you go to your first appointment.

Mind

Mind is a national charity which provides advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. You can contact them either through their national helpline or through one of their local Minds.

IAPT

Improving Access to Psychological Therapies is an NHS programme. Psychological therapies have been shown to be highly effective, so this is a great place to start!

EATING DISORDERS

Our Support Groups

These informal support groups offer students the time and space to talk openly in a safe and pro-recovery environment.

Helpline

Get Connected is a great helpline to call for any mental health difficulty if you are under 25 years old.

Further Support

ABC run a specific helpline for those suffering from anorexia, bulimia and binge eating.

DEPRESSION

Our Support Groups

We offer a six week course for students with mild depression, covering topics such as building a support network, establishing healthy routines and exploring different relaxation techniques.

Helpline

HOPElineUK is a helpline offering non-judgemental support, staffed by trained professionals for anyone up to the age of 35 years old.

Further Support

The Blurt Foundation has loads of information on depression, as well as a mentor scheme to help support you through difficult times.

Students Against Depression has a website filled with great information to help you understand and tackle depression.

ANXIETY

Helpline

Anxiety UK offers a non-judgemental helpline for those struggling with anxiety issues. They also have an email and live chat service.

BIPOLAR DISORDER

E-Community

Bipolar UK offers an online e-community for individuals with bipolar disorder to gain support. There are also additional services for young people aged 18-25 years old. Bipolar UK also offer support to parents and carers of young people with bipolar, as well as university staff and other professionals working with young people.

PSYCHOSIS

Helpline

Rethink Mental Illness has a helpline that you can call if you would like further information about psychosis.

The NHS has some great information about psychosis, discussing symptoms, causes and treatments.

OCD

Helpline

OCD Action runs a confidential helpline that provides support and information to OCD sufferers.

More Information

OCD UK has lots of information about OCD and other related disorders. The website also has information about a telephone support group.
